STRAY dogs around Collie can breath more easily, for a while at least.
Collie’s senior ranger Tony Heppener and ranger Tracy Gillespie have quit.
Tracy finished with the shire on last Friday but Tony will stay on until a replacement ranger is found.
“I’ve just had enough,” Tony said.
“I have my reasons for leaving.
“I don’t know what I am going to do, but I am considering working as a casual ranger, wherever that leads me.
“My wife doesn’t know what she wants to do yet.
“We’re considering selling but not too sure.”
Tony said he was offered a four-week position up north as casual filling-in for an absent ranger, but he is unsure if that is the line of work he wants to follow.
“I have had a great time (working in Collie),” he said.
“ I have been here six years as the ranger and I have made a lot of friends — and sometimes even a few enemies.
“But you can’t please everyone.”
Tracy is considering pursuing a different career, but she just can’t walk away from the dogs.
She is considering returning to dog grooming, something she did before she became ranger two years ago.
Tracy was farewelled with a morning tea.
