Failing pumps cause concern

09 Feb, 2012 10:20 AM
THE poor condition of turf at the Collie Recreation Ground is due to a pump fauilure - one of two pumps to have broken down in recent times.

The pumps are used by the Shire of Collie to water the town’s parks and gardens, including the football oval, Soldiers’ Park and Lions’ Park.

Shire councillor Mark Pianta said he received complaints from local residents regarding the condition of the grounds.

“It just shows how reliant our parks and gardens are on the pumps,” he said.

“I just hope the football oval is back in top condition before the season starts.”

Shire chief executive Jason Whiteaker said the pump at Soldiers Park, which also supplies water to the football oval, burnt a three-phase fuse and at Lions Park there was a major breakage in the main line.

“All have been repaired and are now operational,” he said.

“The costs of repairs are part of the normal annual maintenance allocation for the parks, gardens and reserves.
