Kitten death investigation

26/05/2005 3:35:31 PM
AN incident in which a person allegedly chopped a kitten in half with an axe in Collie is under investigation.

The Royal Society for the Protection of Cruelty to Animals is investigating a report that on April 3 a person killed the kitten because "he was angry".

Spokesperson Kelly Oversby said the kitten was believed to be owned by a 14 year old girl from Collie.

A charge under the Animal Welfare Act is expected to be laid soon.

If found guilty, the man could face a maximum penalty of a $50,000 fine and five years in prison.

The charge carries a minimum penalty of $2,000.

In September last year a 12 month jail sentence was handed down to two men after the brutal slaying of pigs at the Margaret River High School Farm.
