Local Scouts get active

26/06/2008 2:24:00 PM
THE Collie Scout group visited Rottnest Island for the annual Scout clean-up event recently.

Each year up to 600 Scouts have the opportunity to spend the weekend at the popular tourist spot if they help tidy the island up.

Four Collie Scouts attended this year – none of them had visited the island before, and some did not even know it existed.

The Scouts were asked to pick up litter, do some weeding and some paint removal. After finishing their four hours of service they saw the sights of the island and had some fun.

They climbed the cliffs, went into some of the caves, shopped, relaxed and mucked around with other Scout groups.

One activity took the Scouts to the old guns that defended the island and soldiers. The quokkas were very friendly and got a lot of attention.
