RESIDENTS near Narrogin, Harvey, Kalbarri, Morawa and Wongan Hills need to get ready now for severe weather this afternoon.
This includes people in, near or between Geraldton, Jurien Bay, Perth, Mandurah and York and surrounding areas.
Collie being near the severe weather forecast area could also experience a buffeting.
The weather is described as unseasonal and could cause damage to homes and make travel dangerous.
FESA's State Emergency Service (SES) advises people to:
• Store or weigh down loose objects around your home such as outdoor furniture that could be picked up and thrown by strong winds, causing damage or injury
• Ensure your emergency kit is complete including a battery operated radio, torch, spare batteries and first aid kit
• Ensure pets and animals are in a safe area
• Move vehicles under cover
• Unplug electrical applicances and avoid using landline telephones if there is lightning
• If you are away from home contact family or friends to prepare your property
• Construction site workers should store loose building material and tie down sheds
• Boat owners should cheak their moorings
• Campers should find safe shelter away from trees, powerlines, storm water drains and streams
At 8am the Bureau of Meterology said ex-tropical cyclone Iggy was about 390 kilometres west south-west of Geraldton and 560 kilometres west north-west of Perth.
The remnants of cyclone Iggy are expected to produce areas of rain and thunderstorms over western parts of the south west land division during this afternoon and evening and into early Friday morning.
Heavy rainfall conducive to flash flooding should develop later this afternoon. Damaging winds up to 100 kilometres per hour that could cause damage to property are possible during this afternoon and evening.
Higher than normal tides are expected along the west coast.
