DENE McAllan won the Laurie Matthews Memorial Speedcar event at the SmokeFree Collie Speedway on Saturday night.
Speedcars were treated to a smooth and fast racing surface and in return turned on some thrilling racing.
The 30-lap feature race was a fantastic climax to a great night of racing. Ten laps went down before a restart with McAllan leading a fast charging Scott Glazebrook. Tom Watson was not too far behind but no match for the younger drivers.
After a series of restarts, McAllan went on to record the victory to become the first speedcar driver to win the event for two consecutive years.
Ricky Geneve finished third, pulling off a 360- degree spin coming into the front straight with only a lap or two to go
The night proved a safe one for all competitors with only minor damage to race cars.
Laurie Matthews was a prominent and highly respected speedcar driver in Western Australia who lost his life in a traffic accident on the way to a race meeting in Sydney.
The speedcar competitors were full of praise for the Collie association and the way they were welcomed to the speedway.
Their parting wish was to to return again next season.
