DENIS Cocker capped off a good winter golf season last Saturday with a victory in the “A” section of the Greg and Clayton Bell trophy.
He was also declared provisional winner of the season-long Eclectic competition.
Cocker was one of 74 players to play in the Bells’ stroke event at the Collie Golf Club, returning a 69 nett for a two stroke win.
In the “B” section, Boyup Brook’s Chris Lee Steere demolished the opposition and his handicap with a nett 63.
Prizes were on offer to third place in each grade.
Phil Warburton and Fred Bronickis made the top three in “A” grade with nett 71, while Jan Van Vollenstee fired a 69 for second in “B” grade with Ross Davidson gaining third place after a nett 70.
Ian Purse, Tom Chappell, Jim Larsen and Bryan Simpson also had 71 followed by Wayne Waywood, Tony Barker-May and Alf Sanford with 72.
Ashley Stewart was the recipient of the gross trophy with a good score of 81.
Simon Purse, Ash Stewart and Ross Brody won nearest to the pins.
Peter Salmon and Clayton Bell took the long putts and Leon Moran won the long drive.

Kevin Ireland had a good win in scroungers last week.
“SS” Ireland posted 23 points to eclipse “Captain Rak” who, with 22 points, picked up a gross win as well.
Ian Annandale made it a trifecta for Solstice members after tying with John Michalak on 21 points apiece.
Darren Morfitt, Ian Shannon, Mick Pokrwyka and Ernie Sullivan were next with 20 points. Ian and Eric Annandale captured long putts with Peter Gray taking the other novelty on offer.
Rhonda McGill won the ladies event with 14 points.

Phil Warburton and Rod Simmonds finished at the top of the field in the Veterans 14-hole competition last week.
“Warby” and “Toona” returned 30 points each.
Ed Riley was right on their tails in third with 29 points.
Denis Cocker started his big week in style with 38 points in the Leisure Day competition.
Cocker gained the win on count back over Jim Lee. Leigh Bernardi was next on 37 points.

Sunday scroungers kicked off for the summer with a field of 15 players.
Kaye Farquhar returned 21 points to win the ladies event.
Bev Moyses and Rhonda McGill were rewarded for their 18 points each.
Dean Rakich got the count back result over Graham Williams in the men’s section.
Once again 21 points was the best in. Fred Bronickis also got a mention with 20 points.
All members are encouraged to get involved in Sunday golf; the book will be out early and the bar open for a period in the late afternoon for the next few weeks.

Chris Stewart held on to his lead to win the consistency award sponsored by Trevor Lawrence. Despite being unable to play in the last few fixtures, Stewart won with 29 points. Mike Daley was next on 26 points followed by Jim Moyses on 24 points.
Full details of the Eclectic competition will be released once last Saturday’s cards are processed.

This Saturday is an 18-hole stableford event sponsored by Brian Banks, Neil Clark, Mick Pokrwyka and Eric Annandale.
Scroungers is on today. Vets and Leisure Day will be held on Tuesday and Sunday scroungers on the weekend.
