MICK Finlay’s back nine enabled him to snatch victory in the Collie River Valley Medical Group par event held at the Collie Golf Club last Saturday.

Finlay returned his total score of five up on the side that mattered, winning a count back from Alex Tweedie and the in form Jim Moyses, who both returned the same score to pick up trophies.

Matt Harker and Neil McDonald finished just out of the top three with four up. Ray Alp, David Broadbent, Ray Cooper and Trevor McCormick were next on three up followed by Brian Banks and Jan Van Vollenstee on two up and finally John Brown, Trevor Lawrence, Clive Pullan and Graham Williams who returned one up.

Deb Van Vollenstee blitzed the field in the women’s section with a good score of seven up.

Kaye Farquhar was second on one up.

Greg Bell, John Brown and Dick Earl won the novelties for nearest to the pins, Wayne Waywood and Colin Giblett won long putts and P Woolstencroft won the long drive.

Jim Moyses, as mentioned, has been in red hot form of late.

He prefaced his weekend score with top spot in scroungers last week.

After a birdie start, followed up by pars on the next three holes, Moyses had reached 15 points with five to play.

The remaining holes were not as productive but he still did enough, returning 24 points to secure the victory by one over Hugh Annandale on 23 points.

Mick Finlay and Tony Barker-May were tied on 22 points, followed by Kevin Ireland and Neil McDonald with 21 points each.

A score of 20 was enough to get some reward for Brian Banks, Ed Riley, Greg White and Steven Ireland, who made a promising return after a short lay off.

Rhonda McGill went back to back in the ladies event with her 20 points.
