CUBALLING golfer Keith “Skinny” Russell won the P and H Minepro Services stableford event at the Collie Golf Club last Saturday.

“Skinny” is a regular morning player and his 41 points was too good for the remaining competitors.

Mat Harker and Mike Daley performed best of the locals in the afternoon groups.

Harker took the runner-up position on a count back, with both golfers returning a tally of 38 points on what was a moderate scoring day.

Kalev Kutt continues to stay under notice with his 37 points enough for fourth position.

Greg Bell had 36 points to be the last of the 49 players above the CCR of 73. Bell was followed by Tony Barker-May and the Stewart brothers Ash and Chris on 34 points.

Wayne Waywood, Dave Brunswick, Bryan Simpson, David Laird and Joe Italiano gained a reward for scores that on most occasions would be short of the mark.

Nearest the pins were won by Tom Chappell and Danny Clayton.

Long putts went to Kalev Kutt and Mat Harker.

Chris Lee Steere made it a double with the novelties for nearest on 14 and the long drive on 15.

The presentations were hosted by vice-captain Barry ‘Bulldog’ Creighton who is off to Shark Bay to run a caravan park.

His final official duties included a rousing rendition of the Western Bulldogs theme song.

Kevin Ireland played precision golf, amassing 21 points to win Scroungers last Thursday.

Greg Bell matched par over the nine holes to take second place on 19 points. He was followed in third place by Steven Ireland on 18 points.

Dave Brunswick, Des Hebb, Ray Alp and Steve Farquhar were also prominent with 17 points apiece.

Ron Annandale, Ed Riley and Neil McDonald won the novelties.

Peter Gray finished on top of the pile with 31 points in the vets’ 14-hole competition last week.

Peter Ellery was next with 30 points in a rare appearance on a Tuesday. Preparation for retirement perhaps.

Bryan Simpson on 27 points and Dave Brunswick on 26 points made the top four.

Kalev Kutt broke through for a win in the Leisure Day event with 37 points. Greg Bell and Leigh Bernardi were next with 35 points

Members are reminded that fees for the new financial year are now overdue.

This Saturday will be an 18-hole stroke event for the Collie Mail Trophy.

It is the third round of the club championships.

A Stableford alternative is also available.

Scroungers is on today.
