Collie athletes break records as Narrogin visits for competition

Little Athletics

THE annual joint competition with Narrogin was held last Saturday and as always it brought out the best in all of the athletes.

There were 27 competitors that visited Collie and competed in a modified programme of events that included discuss, long jump, javelin, shot putt and many run events.

Despite threatening rain, it did not dampen the enthusiasm of the athletes with many from both clubs breaking personal bests again.

In the under-11 age group, two Collie athletes Maggie Biffin and Rito Yokoi took nearly a minute off their times in 1500 metres.

Some extra coaching this week by Rob Young seems to have helped all competitors in discus with nearly all under-12s beating their previous best scores.

Jarrod Vickers broke the old under-12 record by nearly six metres. He threw 31.24 metres and Alyssa Davidson in under-eight threw 11.94m. She also set a new record.

Bailey Moloney and Jack LePage stepped up this week.

Moloney set new personal bests in 100m, 800m and long jump.

LePage set four personal bests in 100m, 400m, 800m and discus.

An open invitation was extended for Narrogin athletes to travel to Collie for any local competitions.

Next week will be the last week of local competition before the Country Champ-ionships. Collie was hugely successful in the event last year.

This year’s Country Championships will be held in Kalgoorlie on November 28 and 29.
