Summer touch
MAORIMITE played Coopers on Thursday night and jumped to a quick lead.
Coopers made good field position to score twice from close to the line.
Sean Rinder pushed through for a try and turned another ball inside to Jahley Poata to score. Maorimite led six to two at half-time and dominated the second half to win 10 to two.
The switches and inside passes between Prep Poata, who scored three, and Tam Chandler controlled the play and allowed Charnee Anania to score a double. Chanita Hamiora, Chanel Hirama, Kat Akuhata, Dezzy Hirama and Ally Poata had single tries.
Schoolies took on Tomo’s All Stars in a game where both sides struggled for player numbers.
Prep Poata scored one try for Schoolies which was doubled due to TAS having no female players.
Doubles to Callum Tonkin and Nathan Brown rounded out with singles to Paul Rinder and Brad Strike easily overcame this disadvantage, six to two.
In the final Mornington Camp derby for the season the Eels, with three men and three female players, played Morningside which had no reserves and no female players. It went into a penalty try situation.
In a tight first quarter, no side took an advantage. The Eels controlled the game’s speed to suit their numbers and pulled ahead with David Clendon scoring three times out wide matched by Shane Hancy from Morningside.
Singles to Bryce Farmer, John Darganville and Archie were the difference with the final score at six to three without adjustment.
Tonight is the last round of the season.
Maorimite will play Schoolies at 6pm followed by Morningside vs Coopers and Mornington vs TAS at 7pm.
