Suvaljko Memorial

THE Joe Suvaljko Memorial Pace for C4 to C10 class pacers will be at run Sunday’s harness meeting at the Wallsend Ground.

The race is over 2400 metres for a stake of $5000.

The Suvaljko family have continued their father’s tradition of supporting small country clubs as evidenced by Shannon Suvaljko leading the reinsperson and trainer awards this season.

He and brothers Joe and Callan often saved a race meeting for Collie by bringing a truckload of horses for the meeting and thoroughly deserve their success.

On several occasions the three brothers have come around the final turn three in line and show great rivalry in trying to win their fathers’ race.

A good supporting program will give plenty of opportunity for trainers.

Several Collie trainers plan to run their charges.

Karen and Leo Wallrodt and Debbie and Errol Ashcroft will have big teams engaged, while Brian Wheeler, Peter Strike, Tex Flynn and Peter Hemsley may all have horses engaged.

The Punter’s Club made a modest profit last meeting and are coming to terms with the Collie form.

It was interesting to note that Bill Brindley, who gives his tips on Collie Community Radio on Saturday mornings at 11am, tipped the first five winners at the last meeting.

His followers will be keen to hear his selections for Sunday’s meeting.

The tipping competition jackpotted again and there is a valuable Tote voucher for a lucky patron who selects the winners of races two to five.

Five more prizes will be drawn from the chocolate wheel and the Junior Country and Western singers will perform.

It was a lean weekend for connections of Collie horses.

Friday night had the Shire syndicate’s pacer Fast and Furious run an honest third at Gloucester after working hard in the breeze.

The only success at Bunbury’s Saturday night meeting was when the Dale Jackson trained, Trent Wheeler driven Kapeka Lass gave her supporters great value by paying a massive place dividend of $15.80 when she poked her head through on the rails to grab second place.

She is not far away from a win in a suitable race.

As well as the local meeting Collie is likely to be represented at Narrogin on Friday, Pinjarra on Monday and Harvey on Tuesday.
