VETERAN Peter Walsh played an excellent round to win the Henderson Hardware Trophy, sponsored by Ash and Bec Stewart, at the Collie Golf Club last Saturday.
Walsh returned 41 stableford points to be the best player in a good field of 79 players.
In form local doc, Jan Van Vollenstee again produced quality golf to claim the runner-up trophy.
His score of 40 points was also attained by Trevor McCormick who took out third place.
Next on 38 points were Alan Kent, Jed Casserley, Jim Hine and Ray Cooper followed on 37 points by Ken Tate, Ernie Sullivan, Eric Annandale and Matt Harker.
Rounding out the vouchers on 36 points were Joe Italiano, Dave Brunswick, Rod Miller, Phil Warburton, Ross Brody and Rob Sherwood.
Eileen Riley backed up her previous week’s success by winning the women’s section with 37 points on count back from Michelle Tate.
Nearest the pin novelties were won by Phil Warburton (number four), Neil McDonald (seven) and Vicki Graham (14).
Longest putts went to Ed Riley (number six) and Ryan Dye (18), while the long drive on number 15 was won by Mark Sugget.

Bruce Miller won last Thursday’s scroungers competition with an impressive 23 points, turning the tables on Ray Cooper who was runner-up on 22 points. Lou Lukowiak was outright third on 21 points while Frank Battista, Peter Gray, Rob Cavanaugh and Alan Banks had 20 points with Ed Riley and Jim Hine each on 19 points.
Rodney Simmonds, Brad Swan and Bruce Miller won the novelties while Greg Bell won the gross.

Alan Kent was the best veteran, scoring 31 points in the 14-hole Veterans competition last week.
Next best were Peter Walsh on 29 points, Brian Simpson on 28 points, Frank Battista on 27 points and Dave Brunswick on 26 points.
Des Hebb, Alan Kent, Neil McDonald and Ed Riley won novelties.

Brad Jones backed up his recent Saturday success with an incredible 49 stableford points to take out the leisure day event last Tuesday.
Jones played stellar golf, including an eagle on number eight.
As expected, the handicapper took a keen interest in the result, slashing his handicap by five strokes. Steven Ireland, Denis Cocker and Greg Bell each had 37 points.

There wasn’t any Sunday scroungers competition last Sunday but it will resume again this week, with a draw of the cards at 3.45pm for those hitting off late in the day. Those who want to play earlier are advised that the book will be out by 8am.
A Mulligan competition (including extra novelties) will take place in today’s scroungers competition.
Saturday is an 18-hole stableford event sponsored by Bunbury Honda. There is a new-look time sheet starting this week. All players are asked to please adhere to the times shown when hitting off.
Leisure day and veterans will be played as usual next Tuesday.
