LAST Saturday’s New Year Cup 18-hole stroke event for the Alan Kent trophies again was a stern golfing challenge.
Stroke rounds are a great test of character.
Denis Cocker inherited many fine attributes from his father, the late Ted Cocker - one of the best golfers Collie ever produced.
Cocker shot 79 from a nine handicap for his 70 nett, to win from Geoff Lee on a countback.
Lee was a tad unlucky, following a costly blunder with 10 strokes taken on one of the easier par fours.
Peter Gray returned to form with 71, matched by Danny Clayton, by Danny Cheng and John Kenna.
Other good scores were recorded by Jim Hine and Jay Robinson, 72; Greg bell, Steven Ireland, Chris Mead, Rod Miller, Terry Reeves and Bruce Roberts, all on 73.
Nancy Lynn’s 73 was a reward for steady golf, winning the ladies’ competition from Betty White on 75.
Best men’s gross score was Greg Bell’s 73 and best women’s gross was Vicki Graham’s 85.
