COLLIE'S Local Drug Action Group (LDAG) put on a "flash mob" in Forrest Street on Monday morning to raise awareness of foetal alcohol spectrum disorders.
The flash mob, where a group of people assemble suddenly in a public place and perform a coordinated act, involved members of Collie's health services community pausing for 99 seconds using and using balloons to imitate the look of being pregnant.
The act was part of the international Pregnant Pause campaign to push the message that consuming no alcohol while pregnant or breastfeeding is the safest option.
"There were nine other flash mobs happening around WA through LDAG," Collie Shire Council alcohol management project officer Deanne Fleay said.
"It is international foetal alcohol spectrum awareness day today. Our key message is that there should be no alcohol consumed during pregnancy or while breastfeeding."
Attending health services workers expressed concern there were mixed messages presented online about correct safe levels of alcohol consumption.
"There is some confusion about alcohol during pregnancy but the national guidelines recommend no alcohol is the safest option," Ms Fleay said.
The LDAG will be having a workshop on foetal alcohol issues at the Collie River Valley Marron farm in three to four weeks time and will also have a display on alcohol awareness for Children's Week at the end of October.
