FORMER Collie girl and model Ashlee Crabbe is a contestant on the first Australian series of The Bachelor.
Ms Crabbe, now living in Perth, is competing against 24 other beautiful women to win the heart of bachelor Tim Robards.
As of Wednesday afternoon 20 girls remain and Ms Crabbe sits fifth on the online “love leaderboard” – a ranking of the level of attention showed to them by Mr Robards.
“I applied with the encouragement of some friends, really as a joke not expecting it to go further,” Ms Crabbe said.
“Then things escalated really quickly. I had to audition on camera with the producers and I had a feeling that it went well.
“Next thing I know I was on a plane to Sydney.”
Ms Crabbe was not sure if she wanted to be involved, but soon decided the opportunity was too important to turn down.
“It’s not something I would normally do as I’m a bit cynical about this type of thing,” she said.
“But the opportunity was presented to me and in the end I just thought why not?
“It’s not something everyone gets the chance to do in their life, so I went into it just wanting to have fun and enjoy the experience.”
Ms Crabbe said unlike many of the other contestants, she did not believe in love at first sight.
“I think that is something that set me apart from the other girls. I think some of them wanted to fall in love with Tim, so they believed they did before they even knew him,” she said.
“That’s not me in real life so there was no way I wanted to do that on the show.
“Filming the first night was nerve-wracking, so I had a lot on my mind when I first met Tim. He seemed really nice though and had a lovely smile,”
Ms Crabbe said despite the obvious awkwardness of competing against one another, she had become friendly with many of the contestants.
“It’s great getting to know the girls. We are definitely building friendships that will last a lifetime,” she said.
“I went into the show with no misconceptions. I don’t expect to be the prettiest or the most likeable person there. As long as I just be myself and have a good time, I don’t mind how far I make it.”
