COLLIE Shire Council will raise its concern with transport minister Troy Buswell that the cancellation of the Collie-Boyup Brook bus to the Australind train line will negatively impact the community.
The motion was raised by councillor Nola Green, who also asked that Collie-Preston MLA Mick Murray protest the cancellation and lobby for its retention.
Cr Green said after the proposed changes the South West Coach Lines bus service would still exist, though it leaves at 7.30am and takes four hours to reach Perth.
Fares for healthcare, pension and seniors cardholders will double under the new system, pensioners' "free trip" tickets will not be accepted and the consumption of food and drink will not be allowed.
The coach service does not operate on weekends or public holidays and will impact tourism as the Australind train service is used extensively by people walking the Bibbulmin track and cycling the Munda Biddi.
"This is a retrograde step for Collie," Cr Green said.
"It will have a negative impact on many people who use the service."
Cr Ian Miffling described the service as a lifeline of the town and criticised the government for singling out one bus service compared to the range and frequency of metropolitan services on offer.
"To leave the people of Collie in the lurch is disgraceful. It is disrespectful to our community and we should fight tooth and nail to have this decision reversed," he said.
