MARK Sugget broke through in fine fashion when winning the Collie Mail 18-hole stableford event at the Collie Golf Club last Saturday.
Sugget, who has been threatening to put it all together in recent times, compiled 40 points to be two clear of his nearest rival, Clayton Flynn, who finished on 38, and well ahead of Graham Williams and Garry Beard, who played to their respective handicaps for 36.
Sugget and Flynn were presented with their prizes by Collie Mail office manager Gail Jenkins, who said the Mail was pleased to sponsor the event, which has been contested annually for over 50 years.
Others to figure in the allocation of vouchers were Jan Van Vollenstee, John Wray, Greg Moyle and Jim Hine, on 35, Alan Banks, Greg Bell, and George Davis, on 34, and Ken Tate, Joe Italiano, Ian Shannon, Fred Bronickis and Alan Kent, on 33.
Warren Hann (No. 4), Joe Italiano (6), Tony Barker-May (7), Clayton Flynn (14), Mark Sugget (15) and Kalev Kutt (18) won the six novelties on offer.
Twenty points was one more than any of Dave Brunswick's opponents could muster in last Thursday's nine-hole scroungers event.
Brunswick led Chris Shea, Rob Cavanagh, David Broadbent and Ed Riley home to win the event.
Rewarded for scores of 18 were Terry Reeves and Ian Shannon.
Novelties went to Ian Stewart (1), Ray Alp (4), Brian Banks (6), David Broadbent (7) and Alan Banks (9).
Garry Beard had 39 off-the-stick to record the best gross score of the day.
