THE TENTH anniversary of the Collie Railway Station restoration is fast approaching.
Collie Railway Station Group president Jeanette MacLaren-Hall said preparations were in full swing for a celebration on April 24 to mark the occasion.
"There will be balloons for the kids and they can also see our electric train display and our big Thomas the Tank Engine outside," she said.
"We will be offering free Devonshire teas from 9.30am to 3pm."
Mrs MacLaren-Hall said the station, overhead bridge and goods shed were all part of the historical railway precinct and as part of the celebrations the Collie Heritage Group would have some of its rolling stock on display outside their building.
The facility had recently welcomed three new volunteers and with the removal of bollards at the front the cafe had become more accessible for those with a disability. Mrs MacLaren-Hall said she was constantly amazed by the number of people who had lived in Collie for years but were not aware the railway station museum and cafe were there.
"Many people are also completely un aware that a special LED display has been set up to light up the big London plane tree at the front after sunset," she said. Mrs MacLaren-Hall said organisers were hopeful visitors from across WA would make it to next Thursday's celebration and invitations had been sent to the project's original secretary Taffy Trehearn and the grandson of the man who built the station, George Davis, amongst others.
