The Collie Eagles 2014 season commenced on Easter Sunday, when they travelled to Glen Huon Reserve for the Grand Final rematch against 2013 Premiers Eaton Boomers.
Conditions were perfect for football and it was Eaton who ran with a two to three goal breeze in the first quarter.
They showed they had lost none of their fast, disciplined, play on game, slamming on three quick goals before Collie were able to settle through a nice snap from Alex Tweedie mid way through the quarter.
It was all Eaton from that point on, through a dominant midfield and forward line and they finished full of running with a further 4 goals, to turn at the first break with a 7.2(44) to 1.1 (7) lead.
Collie needed a spark in the second Quarter, running with a strengthening breeze, but a hard running Eaton was able to hold a very young and inexperienced Collie line-up to 1 goal for the term through new recruit Tony Mirabella. Eaton managed to score themselves and went to the long break with a commanding 8.4(52) to 2.4(16) lead.
Eaton started the third term with the breeze and immediately continued where they had left off before the break, with quick goals on the board to effectively put the game out of Collie's reach. Corey Griggs was everywhere for the Eagles picking up many possessions and Chris Pocklington was trying hard in the Ruck, where he won many hit outs, only to see a well drilled Eaton midfield take the ball away and kick long into the forward line, where their dominant forward line was able to convert. The Eagles were held goal less for the quarter, with the Boomers taking a commanding 12.8(80) to 2.5(17) to the final break.
Pride was on the line for the Eagles in the last term, with an opportunity to salvage something out of the game, with last use of the breeze. They were able to stem the flow of goals from the Eaton forwards, but still lost the quarter by a goal to eventually go down 14.10 (94) to 3.7 (25).
