CWA lunch
THAT great organisation, the CWA, will hold its monthly soup and sandwiches day on Tuesday at its hall in Throssell Street.
Each month, it raises funds for local organisations, and as this month is the CWA's birthday, it will be raising funds for itself to help with maintenance of the hall.
A variety of soups are served, as well as sandwiches, cakes and slices, tea and coffee.
Doors open at 11.30am, and the $7 entry includes a ticket in the door prize. There are raffles and a trade table.
If it is your birthday, or you are taking along a friend with a birthday, let the ladies know.
Going wild
THERE was a time when the only place you could enjoy seeing our beautiful WA wildflowers was in the bush.
Our wildflowers have gained fame around the world for their unique beauty, but attempts to grow your favourites in your home garden often produced straggly specimens which didn't look much chop.
However, all that has changed, with plant breeders producing some really good performers look no further than our own main streets, where hybrid kangaroo paws and dwarf forms of flowering eucalypts are sources of delight.
Maybe you already have some native plants in your garden, or maybe you would like to introduce some, as they are a great way of saving water.
A free workshop on Friday next week will provide advice on how to design a native garden and grow native plants in your garden.
It will also give you the chance to win a $200 voucher for native plants, including one grass tree, for households on scheme water.
The workshop is a collaboration between the Water Corporation through its Waterwise Towns project, and the Ngalang Boodja Coun cil.
It will be held in the Collie Noongar Com mun ity Centre, and includes morning tea and a bush tucker lunch.
You can register your interest by sending your name, address, phone and/or email number to the Ngalang Boodja Council in Forrest Street, or emailing louis.evans @ngalangboodja.com.au by Wednesday.
Meeting friends
I HADN'T been to one of the monthly Country Markets at the Wallsend Ground for some time, but went along last Saturday, and had a great time meeting lots of friends and browsing the stalls.
If you haven't been for a while do try to make the next one..
The range of stalls provides lots to see, try and buy, and the Ag Society people are on hand with morning tea or coffee.
The Goods Shed markets operate once a fortnight in Forrest Street, and are another great way to browse for unusual items and meet lots of friends in an atmosphere that is more laid-back than pushing a trolley around the supermarket.
Local singer
YOU can catch up with talented former Collie singer Pauline Fitz patrick when Dizzy Miss Lizzy returns to the Vic Hotel on Saturday night.
She and her partner will be singing from about 8.30pm.
Bowel scan kits
PEOPLE who bought bowel scan kits are asked to return them to Mick Murray's office or the Red Cross Shop by tomorrow.
Completing the test could save your life, so it really is worth it.
Story time
STORY time for toddlers will be at the library on Monday at 10am.
It is a great way to start little ones off on a lifelong habit of reading books. It is also a good opportunity to have a look at just what is available at the local library, which offers far more than just books.
I always drop in with my grandchildren when they visit, as they love browsing the shelves for books and dvds, and hanging out in the colourful children's corner while I look for books for me.
Sunday music
COLLIE Country Music Club's Sunday afternoon series continues on Sunday at the North Collie Hall, from 1-5pm.
The Band will be Just Cruzin. BYO alcohol, light refreshments will be available.
Eagles annual auction
COLLIE Eagles Football Club will host its annual auction at the Collie Railway Goods Shed, Forrest Street, from 11am on June 28.
To support the fundraiser the club is looking for donations of saleable items, or if anything you would like them to sell on your behalf on commission by their licensed auctioneer.
For more information contact Martin Coughlan on 0417 992 380 or 9734 2296.
