COLLIE kids and their parents came together for a day of ninjas, sumos and origami at the Collie Library on Friday morning.
"We had a bit of fun and we all learnt a bit about Japan," organiser Alison Kononen said.
"We have a large Japanese clientele at the library so we thought it would be nice for the kids to learn a bit about the culture."
Origami instructor Jennifer King gave a demonstration of the ancient Japanese art, with the children following along step-by step to make their own creations.
Children were invited to write down a wish and add it to the Japanese wishing tree, with Collie Library's Alison Kidman joking that ordinarily the tree would then be burnt, but the library had decided not to take the
commitment that far.
The children and their parents enjoyed sushi, green tea and Japanese lollies for morning tea.
Ms Kidman said the day was part of the school holiday program and had received an excellent response.
