IT'S been a rollercoaster season so far, but with the mid-season two week break behind us the Collie Eagles league side will be keen to get back on the track this Saturday.
Sitting a game below Carey Park on the ladder, Collie will be keen to edge into the top five within the next few weeks.
Getting their best 22 players on the field hasn't been easy, but when it all goes to plan Collie has shown they are capable of competing with the top sides.
A one point loss to perennial powerhouse Eaton in round 10 and a 39 point victory over fourth placed Busselton in round two is proof enough that Collie can run with the best, but doing so on a regular basis has been the issue to this point.
The Eagles have a set group of regular contributors consisting of Matthew Blackford, Matthew Michael, Tony Mirabella, Corey Griggs and Chris Cross.
However with a large amount of young players who haven't yet found real consistency in the squad, the Eagles senior players are leaned on perhaps a little too heavily.
Nonetheless, Collie boasts some of the best young talent in the league with seven players from the Eagles being named to the South West's landmark colts side of 30.
Reid Saunders, Liam Kinsella, Trent Tanner, Nathan Cleggett, Travis Cleggett, Jayce Fontana and Jaiden Piavanini were all selected to the side and have all given strong performances for the Collie league side at some point this season.
With a good mix of senior contributors and talented youth, Collie can form the basis of a strong team.
However with four losses in their past five games, the Eagles will need to bounce back in the coming round to keep their finals aspirations alive.
Yet if the Eagles can go on to claim a top five berth and play finals football in 2014, opposition teams won't want to take them lightly.
Over the past two seasons Collie has tallied up more finals experience than any other side.
In 2012, Collie finished the regular season on top of the ladder and went on to play two grand finals against Busselton due to a draw in the first match.
Last season Collie finished at fourth on the ladder beating Bunbury, Augusta-Margaret River and South Bunbury to face Eaton in the grand final.
Despite two unsuccessful premiership runs, the Eagles have proven they are a force when it comes to post season football.
However focusing on the next part of the season comes first, and Collie will be looking for a win against the eighth placed Harvey-Brunswick-Leschenault at Brunswick Oval this Saturday.
