MEMBER for Collie-Preston, Mick Murray MLA has accused the state government of neglecting Collie High School.
Mr Murray is concerned that Collie Senior High School (CSHS) has been named as one of the most run down schools in Western Australia.
Department of Education figures released through normal auditing reports show that CSHS needs an estimated $833,536 of repairs done.
"It's worrying that Collie Senior High School is named in the list of top 10 schools that are in such a state of disrepair that there are safety and health riskts to students and staff.
"Just over a year ago the Barnett Government made a fully costed, fully funded election promise of $7.5 million to fund upgrades at CSHS, yet there is no money for these works in this year's budget, let alone money presented in forward estimates," Mr Murray said.
Next year, WA High Schools will incorporate Year 7 students and Mr Murray said that over 100 Year 6 students are currently enrolled at Collie's four public schools.
"Just this extra intake will put pressure on existing facilities," Mr Murray said.
"Given that the school is up there as one of WA's worst schools you would think there would be some rumblings from school management.
"The principal was keen to pose in electioneering material with the Liberal Party candidate promoting the fully costed, fully funded $7.5 million upgrade to Collie Senior High School, yet he's not standing front and centre for his students now.""It's worrying that Collie Senior High School is named in the list of top 10 schools that are in such a state of disrepair that there are safety and health risks to students and staff," Mr Murray said.
