COLLIE is getting bombarded with pollution

August 21 2014 - 12:00am

COLLIE is getting bombarded with pollution according to some environmentalists. These include emissions from the mines, power stations and industries.Mine dump height limits have also been exceeded. There are fears this pollution could not only effect the health of locals but also damage the environment. The rehabilitation of the environment around the mines and restoring it to as close as possible to its original state is the responsibility of the mines' management.Yet there is talk of rehabilitation projects being $100-$150 million behind by various government agencies including the Environmental Protection Agency.A number of locals have complained they believed the government bodies are not fulfilling their jobs as watchdogs. When miners have been asked about rehabilitation of the mines, many have responded by asking, "what rehabilitation?"A finger has been pointed at Griffin mine specifically while Premier is believed to be more responsible in regards to the environment.
