August 21 2014 - 12:00am

WESTERN Australia's top young trainees and apprentices have been recognised in a special ceremony at State Parliament, as they prepare for one of the largest and most prestigious skill and trade competitions. They have been selected as members of Team WA and will compete in the WorldSkills Australia National Competition in Perth from September 18-20. The event will be held side-by-side with the Skills West Expo, providing a major showcase of vocational education and training (VET) in WA. They were chosen from a field of almost 180 medal winners who took part in regional competitions last year. They will compete against the nation's best in almost 40 categories as diverse as web design, carpentry, retail butchery, floristry, electrical installation, vehicle painting and restaurant service. Medal winners will also be considered for selection in the 2015 Team Australia Skillaroos, to compete in the WorldSkills International Competition in Brazil.
