Junior netball
THERE has been a great turnout of players for the 2014 junior netball season.
It ended with the final games on Monday.
All players showed excellent team sport attitude and put in 100 per cent effort.
Year 2 girls had a great season learning plenty of skills, positions and game play.
Improvement was shown by all players, making them all ready to be put in a team next season.
They continued to put in amazing efforts each week.
Years 3-4 players each week completed skills training followed by a game.
By the end of the season they were showing great team work and skills.
In their final game St Brigids 1 played St Brigids 2 in an evenly matched clash.
The other game featured Fairview playing Amaroo where the game started off goal for goal with excellent shooting and game play.
Great effort was displayed by all players.
The years 5, 6 and 7 grand final was on August 18 at Roche Park between Yellow and Blue.
The fast-paced game produced close scoring during the first quarter, goal shooter Demi Johnson and Laura Crowe worked well together to out-score Yellow 5-2.
The second quarter produced some great intercepts by Keeley and Paige Annandale and Katie Quill (Yellow) in the centre half, with Ebony White and Maia Chandler working consistently behind their heels.
There was also excellent defensive work by Hollie Pola, Emily Francis, and Odette Telfer from Blue.
It wasn't too long before Yellow caught up with strong shooting from Jaimee Bishop and Demi Hunter scoring after half time 7-6.
In the third quarter Yellow proved too strong for Blue, with the consistent shooting of goals and strong defensive work from Samara Coverley and Olivia Stone.
Overall a great grand final, with Yellow running out winners 17-8.
There was a big turnout of parents, grandparents and friends watching and supporting the grand finalists.
Thanks to Blue coach Catherine Francis and her Yellow counterpart Melissa Annandale as well as and all the coaches who gave up their time to help out with the junior division.
Collie Macdonald's Amanda Smith donated and presented the trophies and medallions to the winning team and the grand final best player Jaimee Bishop.
The best player for the grand final was awarded to .
Most voted players for the season Tara Read Wallis on 18 points, runner-up Morgan Becker 14, then Samara Coverley 8, Olivia Stone 8, Demi Johnson 8, Breea Pike 7, Jenny South 6, Hollie Pola 6, Alexis Tate 6 and 10th Felicity Becker five points.
All other players received certificates.
