A cold front passing over Perth on Friday and Saturday brought record rainfall for the metro area.
The Weather Bureau measured 51.2mm in the Mount Lawley rain guage. That broke the previous record for this year of 50.6mm - and it was also the heaviest August downpour for a decade.
Other areas of the city were even wetter. Bickley had 65mm and Jandakot had 55.8mm.
Duty forecaster for the Bureau of Meteorology Noel Puzy said Bickley and Jandakot often got heavy rain.
"But this is the heaviest this year for the Perth city rain guage."
The heaviest rainfall in regional areas was at Wandering which recorded 50mm.
"It's been pretty wet but we still haven't reached our average for August which is 133 mm so overall it's been a dry month," Mr Puzy said.
By 9am on Saturday morning the cold front had mostly moved east of Perth bringing some rain into the wheatbelt.
On Friday the cold front led to a severe weather warning for areas between Lancelin and Bremer Bay.
The state emergency service received 19 calls for assistance - most of them involving minor damage to roofs.
The weather warning was cancelled at 10pm on Friday night.
