GRACETOWN’S Bronte Macaulay has surfed onto the world stage after her career best finish in Spain.
The 20-year-old went into the Pantin Classic Galicia Pro and caused the biggest upset on Saturday, taking out two World Championship Tour campaigners in the semi-finals.
After eliminating Coco Ho from Hawaii and Pauline Ado from France, Macaulay took on Silvana Lima from Brazil in the final.
Macaulay told asp it came down to the last minute, making it a tough call for the judges.
Lima made a risky decision in the dying stages of the competition which paid off.
She told asp that Macaulay had been “ripping” the event and knew she had to fight hard for the title.
It was Macaulay’s biggest surf competition to date and she told aspworldtour.com she was very nervous.
“It came down to the last minute so it was a pretty cool first final for me,” she told asp
Macaulay is now focussing on the regional under 20 series in Australia in the hope to qualify for the World Junior Championships.
