COLLIE locals and visitors will soon have access to a free smart phone app which will provide information about events, businesses, and other useful information specific to the town.
Collie Chamber chief executive Richard Jackson said the app will benefit the whole community, with business, tourism and events to take centre stage in the new piece of technology.
"The app will enable any locals or visitors to find the type of business that they need, obtain their contact details and even have a map showing where they are located," Mr Jackson said.
"Instead of having to drive up and down the high street looking for a particular business you just download the app and it is all there at your fingertips.
"All events happening in the Collie region will be supported by the app, allowing people to find out what is on in the town and where to go and find it."
The Collie Chamber of Commerce and Industry is looking to book a notable WA business identity to help launch the app in the near future.
"We will be looking to make a big fanfare about something that will, for a short while, be unique in regional WA," Chamber chief executive Richard Jackson said.
The app will include a business directory, events calendar, as well as photos and videos covering notable Collie events.
"Anyone wishing to upload information or photos or videos should contact the Chamber," Mr Jackson said.
Mr Jackson said any business that currently advertises in the Collie Business and Telephone Directory will have their details appear in a business listing for free.
"In future we will be offering 'featured spots' to our advertisers so they can promote any special deals they may have - there will be a small additional cost for this."
Mr Jackson said the app will help to boost economic activity in Collie and provide flow on benefits to the wider community.
"We are hoping that the free app, combined with a free wifi network, will make Collie one of the most technologically advanced towns in the South West."
