The Department of Parks and Wildlife (DPaW) have begun burning off 7 kilometers north-east of Collie and 22 kilometers east of Collie.
The forecast weather conditions for tomorrow with respect to smoke dispersal are:
1. Morning fog on Friday (19 September) is likely to exacerbate smoke impacts.
2. Smoke impact is very likely for Don Road. Drivers should expect delays.
3. Minimal impact to the Harris River Road, Coalfields Rd and.. However travellers using the Harris River Road, particularly people travelling in the evening and early morning, should prepare for the possibility of reduced visibility and therefore increased travel times.
4. Minimal impact to mining industry.
5. Some smoke impacts to minor roads within forest areas.
6. Some impact to rural properties North of Collie, particularly overnight.
The Bushfire Risk Management will apply fire north-east of Collie under prescribed conditions to protect private property, plantations, and Western Power infrastructure.
The burn east of Collie is to stimulate seed release, create conditions conducive to establish seedlings, provide protection to the young saplings from damaging wildfire and reduce fire risk by removal of fine fuels and woody material up to 75mm in diameter.
