Two teenage boys allegedly led police on a chase through East Victoria Park on Tuesday afternoon, with police saying they reached more than double the speed limit in a stolen utility.
Police attempted to stop the utility on Westmorland Street in East Victoria Park but the driver, allegedly a 14-year-old boy, put the Hilux in reverse, narrowly missing the patrol car and a pedestrian, police spokeswoman Ros Weatherall said.
The Hilux continued in reverse along Westmorland Street and then Etwell Street before backing into two trees on the ground of East Victoria Park Primary School, knocking one of the trees over.
The driver then sped away, allegedly reaching 120km/h in a 50km/h zone, before smashing through the fence of a property. The driver and his 17-year-old passenger then allegedly jumped a fence in an effort to avoid arrest.
As police tried to arrest the pair, friends and family members of the boys allegedly hindered officers, with two girls subsequently arrested and charged with disorderly conduct.
A 14-year-old boy of East Victoria Park is scheduled to appear in Perth Children's Court on Wednesday to face six charges, including stealing a motor vehicle and aggravated reckless driving.
A 17-year-old boy, also of East Victoria Park, is scheduled to appear on Wednesday, charged with stealing a motor vehicle and breaching bail.
