ARTHUR the squirrel glider is only three months old, but he’s already making friends at Peel Zoo.
Part of the zoo’s breeding colony, his job is to head around the zoo and be patted by members of the public.
Zoologist Bronte Hodgson said the zoo started with four squirrel gliders two years ago and have since bred 12 babies.
“It’s part of a captive breeding program with other institutions,” she said.
“At the moment they’re still on milk but some of them are starting on solids.
“Arthur loves his grapes – squirrel gliders love fruit, nectar and flowers.
“Gliders can cover a distance of around 50 metres in a jump – it’s quite amazing.”
