AN ERSKINE pensioner who fell and smashed her glasses on a footpath earlier this month has been given a new pair by a local optometrist.
Margaret Buck tripped while walking her dog and her bid for compensation was rejected by the City.
She needed seven stitches to her face, injured her shoulder and has ongoing complications with her right hand after falling on the footpath she said was raised about three or four centimetres.
A City spokesperson said because they were unaware of the fault in the path they were not liable for Mrs Buck’s injuries but had since repaired the path.
When the Mandurah Mail ran a story about Ms Buck on October 13, many in the community reached out to see if they could help.
Andrew Lowery of For Sight 20 20 in the Smart Street mall got in touch to supply Ms Buck with a new pair of bifocals at no charge.
“It is such a lovely thing to do,” Ms Buck said.
“I got those glasses when I had a bit of money but I couldn’t afford to get them replaced,” she said.
“It shows there are still good people in Mandurah.”
The City spokesperson said if anyone spots a fault, they should report it by calling 9550 3777.
