By taking out the first event last Friday evening with the Trent Wheeler driven Sir Escapealot, Errol Ashcroft moved to an eight point lead in the Busselton Trotting Club’s Leading Trainer Award.
He leads from Callan Suvaljko, Michael Callegari and Aaron Beckett, all of whom have strong teams entered for tomorrow night’s final meeting of the season.
However Errol will also be taking a large team of pacers there who have been in great form over the first five meetings of the season.
Sir Escapealot flew off his 30 metre handicap to lob one out and two back and Trent bided his time until well into the final lap before unleashing a paralysing burst in the straight to win running away.
He was great value at $9.60 for the win and $2.30 the place and will be one of Errol’s strong team to contest this week’s racing.
Later in the night Trent sat behind the Terry Ferguson trained Northern Beach for a third placing after a slow start, returning $2.60 for the place.
Tex Flynn engaged Cody Wallrodt for his Organised Chaos who he piloted into a 3 metre second placing for a $2.40 return.
Collie’s other junior reinsperson, Jack Justins was engaged for Michael Callegari’s Melton Express who started a $1.60 favourite before leading the one wide line, then going to the front but being caught on the line.
He returned a $1.60 dividend.
Jack travelled to Albany on Saturday night where his best result was another second on a short priced favourite in Extreme Dreams, but supporters would have been very disappointed with their money back $1.00 place dividend!
David Hunter’s Bashful Compton started in the stand event at Pinjarra on Monday.
Five Collie trainers took teams to Narrogin on Tuesday night. Teal and Me and Boo represented Peter Hemsley, while the Wallrodt’s took Cheval De Retour, Local Lizzie and Pretty Suspect.
Errol Ashcroft had a strong pair in Sir Escapealot and Forever Remembered, Tex Flynn started Trunkey Galileo while Kissmecougar went around for the Dale Jackson stable.
The Busselton Cup features in tomorrow night’s final meeting of the season and is followed by Bunbury on Saturday night, Albany on Sunday afternoon, Pinjarra on Monday afternoon and another Bunbury programme on Tuesday evening.
