Long time political staffer Laurel Dhu is set to retire after 14 years in the Collie office of Mick Murray MLA.
The Collie local has worked in various departments of the Government sector for over 20 years, and has worked for Mick Murray since he was elected in 2001.
She says she loves the people of Collie and said that it is a great place to live.
“Whenever there has been a crisis or emergency, everyone in town gets together to help out”.
“There are so many hardworking and generous volunteers who give so much of their own time to the community,” she said.
Met some wonderful people and some great characters
“The job has been great in terms of doing something nearly every day to be able to help someone, even if it’s just a minor thing or something more complex but it feels good to be able to make someone’s life a little bit easier,” she said.
Mr Murray said that Laurel has handled her job very well over the years given some of the issues she sometimes deals with.
“She is held in high esteem not only in Collie but in other political offices in WA.”
“She has set an example for every other electoral office in WA”, he said.
“Post retirement I plan on spending more time with the family, especially my little grandson, Jasper who will commence pre-primary this year.”
“I also plan on working with my husband on our family farm which has a Pink Lady apple orchid,” she said.
