CAMPERS have been warned they may lose the right to stay in Wellington Weir after a horror weekend at the national park.
Rubbish, camping equipment and car wrecks were among the items left strewn across the camp sites during a busy long-weekend. Department of Parks and Wildlife district manager Drew Griffiths said visitors should show more respect when coming to Collie.
“It’s very disappointing when people don’t clean up after themselves,” he said.
“Most people do the right thing, but some don’t.
“If you bring it in, take it out – otherwise you may lose the privilege of camping in the national park.
“These ‘wild’ sites are difficult to monitor, it’s like trying to manage a caravan park 50 kilometres long and 100km wide.
“We’re working very hard to improve facilities and clean up the mess as quickly as possible.”
Member for Collie-Preston Mick Murray said he was disappointed with the amount of rubbish that was constantly left behind.
“People who trash the dam are making a rod for their own backs,” he said.
“They will risk losing the privilege altogether and are making it hard for all the people doing the right thing.”
