COLLIE artist Keon Hall and mentor Simon Hemsley have once again teamed up to create works for the portrait section of this year’s Dardanup Art Spectacular.
In a series of workshops in Hemsley’s Bunbury studio, the duo worked on portraits with a twist.
Hall created a self portrait and Hemsley did a portrait of Hall.
Both artists worked in a similar ochre paint pallet.
This builds on their project last year when they both created and exhibited portraits of the same model holding the same pose.
For this year’s project, Hall’s self portrait was painted on four individual canvasses.
He said the project had been extremely rewarding.
“I enjoyed learning from Simon about tonal values which are the light and dark colours and if you get the shapes right the picture appears,” he said.
When separated, the four canvasses can be joined together in innumerable combinations which provide an element of intrigue.
On May 16-17 the exhibition of Hall’s portrait will be amplified by a small screen showing photographs of the portrait in a variety of alternate combinations.
The Dardanup Art Spectacular is on May 15-17 at the Dardanup Hall with an Art Trail through the Ferguson Valley.
It begins with the opening night and awards.
Tickets are available at the door and include local wines and a light supper.
