Construction workers and heavy duty equipment have become an all too familiar sight in the Collie town centre, but the temporary disruptions are in the name of long term improvements for the people of Collie.
Construction and upgrades have been occurring as part of the overall SuperTowns projects in Collie.
Shire of Collie SuperTowns project officer, Geoff Klem is pleased with how the projects are progressing.
The new Collie Childcare centre is going to be completed ahead of schedule, with work beginning on its steel formations earlier this week.
“We are hoping to be in a position to move everything in to the new centre before Christmas, so we can be ready for the New Year,” Mr Klem said.
The Soldiers Park upgrade is now complete, with new toilet facilities, barbeque area, seats, lighting improvements, landscaping and new rubbish bins.
The much anticipated Collie Art Gallery and parking area is now complete and open to the public, along with the newly installed railway crossing opposite the gallery.
“The Art Gallery has been attracting people from all over, who have come to see the first exhibition,” Mr Klem said.
The Rolling stock shed is in its final stages of construction and will be completed shortly.
Stage one of the new Central Park development has competed detailed design and contractors are currently being engaged, this project will commence shortly after contractors have been appointed.
The Central Park development will include a new amenities block, play equipment, a water playground, and new seating areas, and stage one is estimated to cost around 1.5 million.
The amenities within the Central Park development will commence construction shortly and will be complete with disabled access and shower facilities.
Mr Klem said he is excited about the water playground concept, and hopes it may attract visitors to the town.
“The idea is to have it as an attraction in town for both locals and people who may want to come up from other places for the day.”
The toilet facilities at Central Park will be out of use during the upgrades, and people are encouraged to use the facilities at Soldiers Park during the duration of construction.
