COLLIE local Bec Woods has the unique honour of being one of 20 people in Western Australia to be part of the 2015 Emerging Community Leadership program.
Starting later this month, the structured leadership development program includes four, three-day regional workshops spaced about six weeks apart.
The workshops will be held in different regional locations across WA where participants will learn about leadership models, tools and principles; and will hear inspirational stories from local leaders and fellow participants.
Participants will receive one on-one leadership coaching and be part of small ‘action-learning’ group project discussions with coaching support.
Ms Woods works as an administration manager at the Collie Chamber of Commerce and was nominated for the program by them.
“I’m really looking forward to improving my leadership and personal skills,” she said. “I hope to build my own confidence and develop my leadership abilities.”
Part of the program includes participants developing a project that will directly benefit their local community.
“My project will focus on the health sector in Collie,” Ms Woods said.
“I would like to develop a program that would help streamline the processes for people looking to get help for drug and alcohol dependence.
“Many people don’t know where to go when they need help.”
The mother-of-two hopes to return from the course a stronger and wiser person.
“I’m proud to be selected and looking forward to expanding my horizons,” Ms Woods said.
“It’s a very big challenge – especially as I will have to juggle work, family and volunteer commitments.
“It will definitely push me outside my comfort zone.” Mr Jackson said Ms Woods was the perfect person for the program and was confident she would make the most of her opportunity.
“This is exactly the kind of program that will help Bec take her leadership skills to the next level,” he said.
“She is another great example of how Collie continues to produce leaders from within - whether in sport, business or government.
“It is particularly pleasing to see another strong Collie woman be offered leadership training.”
