An art gallery and picture framing business in Inglewood was destroyed by a fire on Thursday evening.
A spokeswoman for the Fire and Emergency Services Authority said the blaze at the John Cartwright Art Gallery on Central Avenue broke out around 5.25pm.
Operating out of a large shed at the back of a property, the business was completely gutted and the damage bill is estimated at $500,000.
Reporter Ryan Miller told Radio 6PR there were reports of an explosion at the scene on Thursday.
"The owner tried to fight the fire himself before being pulled to safety by a neighbour," he said.
Firefighters said the blaze may have been caused by an electrical fault or a wood heater.
Nine fire tenders were sent to the scene and around 35 firefighters fought the blaze before finally putting it out around 8.20pm.
Fortunately none of the surrounding homes were impacted by the fire.
