The mercury dropped well below July's average for the first time in 10 days on Friday, falling to a frosty 2.2 degrees at 5.45am in Perth.
The coldest temperature in the metropolitan area was recorded in Jandakot, which fell to 0.2 degrees, followed by Pearce at 0.8 and Perth Airport at 1.0, and the Bureau of Meteorology's forecast for frost around the Perth Hills was evident with the obligatory posts of frosty cars on social media.
But if you felt sorry for yourself walking to the bus stop this morning, spare a thought for residents near Southern Cross airport in the Central Wheatbelt, who suffered the state's lowest minimum for Friday, recording -2.5 degrees at 6.50am.
The WA Weather Group succinctly tweeted: "-2.5°C at SouthernCross. Brrr".
For its traditionally coldest month, Perth has enjoyed relatively mild weather, with minimum temperatures above the month's average daily minimum of 7.7 degrees every day since July 14 - apart from Wednesday, which saw a rather unsportingly departure from the pack with a 7.3-degree minimum.
"This has been the coldest since that really sharp one on the ninth," said Bureau of Meteorology spokesman Neil Bennett, referring to July 9, where Perth shivered through its coldest night in three years with a 1-degree minimum.
"But it's not exceptionally cold by any stretch of the imagination."
The coldest July night in the Perth CBD has been 0 degrees, which happened on July 3, 2010, July 27, 1998 and July 15, 1997.
Friday is expected to be partly cloudy and reach a maximum of 18 degrees and similar conditions should prevail over the weekend – Saturday is forecast to be cloudy, ranging from 7 to 18 degrees with the chance of a shower, while Sunday is expected to have a six degree minimum before warming to a sunny 19 degrees.
