FOR four years students at Assumption Catholic Primary School have entered the Shaun Tan Award for Young Artists.
But until this week, while the students always did well, the school had never had a finalist.
Eight-year-old Josie McKay has changed that, however, winning third place with her painting, Horse.
“I felt like painting an animal so I just picked a horse,” Josie said.
“I want to be an artist and Shaun Tan is my favourite, so I’m pretty excited.”
Art teacher Kate Capone said she was thrilled at Josie’s placing in the award.
“I’m very proud,” she said.
“We had lots of wonderful entries and Josie did so well.”
A “quiet achiever”, according to Mrs Capone, Josie won a Shaun Tan book and art supplies.
