Residents have described the moments a 3.2 magnitude shook Harvey and Collie overnight.
Hannah O’Dea, 20, was awake when the earthquake hit her home in the centre of Harvey.
“I heard a loud bang for like three seconds,” she said.
“It was like nothing I’d ever heard before – sort of like an explosion.
“The floor shook and the dogs were going off.
“I half expected to hear sirens going off but then there was silence.
“It was quite scary.”
One Collie lady described the sounds that she awoke as her house shook around her.
“I was dozing at the time and I heard a rumble,” she said.
“I thought it was shot firing from the mine but it was louder and more rumbling than usual.”
“The dogs went off and their hair was standing on end, the pool water was moving, different to when the wind moves it though.”
“The tubs of dog biscuits I keep on the shelves outside nearly fell off from the vibrations.”
“I could hear trucks going by afterwards so I knew it wasn’t them making the noise.”
Locals took to Facebook to share experiences of what had just happened.
The epicentre of the quake was centred south east of Harvey and it struck at about 12.30am.
Geosciences Australia estimated it could have been felt by people up to 28km away.
Many Collie residents initially dismissed the noise and rumbling as explosions from the nearby mines, or the train that runs through the middle of town.
