Local residents, visitors and train commuters will now have a brand new, safe access over Mandurah Road following the unofficial opening of the footbridge on Friday morning.
Mandurah’s newest piece of community infrastructure, thanks to McConnell Dowell Constructors, will be formally opened at a later date however the community can start to reap the benefits of this safe access point.
“Just the fact people have a safe place to cross is great,” Mayor Marina Vergone said.
“You used to be able to see kids play ‘dodge the cars’ on the way to school in the morning but now they can use the bridge.
“The community now has access to the hospital and the uni, and you have this whole new development, Central Park, which will open up and have access to the bridge as well.”
The Mandurah Road Pedestrian Bridge project received $5.4 million in Federal Government funding through the Building Better Regional Cities program.
City of Mandurah manager of community and social development Tim Hartland said the footbridge was access friendly.
