A LARGE crowd witnessed last Saturday’s running of the United Crane Hire Collie Cup over 2000 metres with Cushryn, the second favourite, winning by two and a quarter lengths, paying $8.20 SO and $2.10 for the place.
Gee Pee Ess was second with the favourite Silver Minz third.
The winner, trained by Ascot trainer Jayne Busslinger, was capably ridden by Lisa Staples.
Bunbury trainer Mark Bairstow’s Popacorka, starting equal favourite, impressively won the 1400m race. Coalcliff Charlie Tylor Memorial Plate, by three and a quarter lengths, paying $ 6.90 SO and $2.50 for the place.
Apprentice Kate Fitzgerald was the successful jockey.
The Applecross Electrical and Testing Service 53 plus handicap over 1200m went to the Tom Pike trained Gone and Got It, ridden by Colin Haddon.
The winner paid $4.20 SO and $2.70 for the place.
The Premier Coal 53 plus handicap 1100m winner was Master Gold, trained by Robert and Todd Harvey, ridden by Willie White, paying $8 SO and $2.30 for the place.
The Italia Plant Hire Maiden over 1100m was won by No Other Name for the Bunbury combination of trainer Brett Larsen and Jockey Kyra Yuill.
The winner paid $8.50 SO and $2.50 for the place.
The Collie Bus Service Maiden 1400m was won by Luna Express, trained in Bunbury by Gary Hitchcock and ridden by apprentice Mollie Clark.
The winning dividend was $15.60 SO and $5.50 for the place.
Collie Race Club president Keith Gilbert was delighted with the support from trainers and owners which resulted in capacity fields for all races.
The combined on course and off course tote turnover was a record for the club.
Once again the Fashions on the Fields was spectacular and a highlight on the day.
The club thanked the organisers and businesses for donating the prizes.
