ALTHOUGH the Collie Show may be over for another year, the committee already have their thinking caps on and are busy thinking up ideas to make next year bigger and better.
Collie Agricultural Society Treasurer Les Whymark said the show was a success this year, with a good amount of people coming through the gates.
“One thing is for sure, we haven’t gone backwards, we had more people through the gates than last year,” he said.
“What saved us was letting the children in free, we had a lot of families come because of this.”
“We are really grateful to the Collie Shire this year for their support especially in making the grounds safe.”
“Everyone pulled together to create something huge for the community.”
“We want to make it the biggest show in the south west.”
Mr Whymark created software to help with the smooth running of the show and the entries they receive.
“Next year we will hopefully implement the software in other shows to help with the funding,” he said.
“Others will hopefully realise they will have to adapt and change to keep up with the times.”
Grounds Coordinator Kristy Milne said the committee are already thinking up ways to make the show better next year.
“We had a 3 year plan and it’s working so far it’s onwards and upwards from here,” she said.
“We are looking at some possible changes to the layout; the layout of the show is a work in progress.”
“Next year we will be adding an extra gate so we can accommodate a greater number of people through the gates”
“The show is heading forward and we are planning on getting bigger, if we stop doing anything it will just eventually shut down.”
“I do it for the kids; it makes it worthwhile to see all the smiles on the day.”
Despite the warm weather the crowds still came out to enjoy a showcase of what Collie has to offer, and Ms Milne said they welcome ideas from the community.
“We appreciate any feedback and are happy to work towards finding solutions to any issues people might have,” she said.
“We want to give Collie the best and be able to showcase the town we live in.”
“We want to grow with Collies growing population, and we are more than happy for the feedback because we want to know what people are thinking.”
Ms Milne said the society welcomes any new volunteers who wish to be involved.
“We are looking for more volunteers to help out,” she said.
“We would achieve more if more people put their hands up and got involved.”
“The show wouldn’t have done so well this year without the help from volunteers.”
Ms Milne said the show is only successful because of the support from the Collie community.
“We want to thank all of the loyal sponsors who support us every year,” she said.
“It was a roaring success, and the feedback we have had so far has all been positive.”
“We also want to thank every person who came through the gates this year; we couldn’t have done it without them.”
