ST BRIGIDS Collie will become the first school in town to have a program for three-year-olds after gaining the necessary government approvals.
Parents are now able to enrol their children in the prekindy program for February next year, which will run on Tuesdays from 8.45am-3pm.
There are a maximum of 20 spots available.
Principal Paul Cronin said three-year-old programs were a popular addition to many Catholic school programs in Western Australia with about 80 operating across the state.
“Children in Collie will have the opportunity to be involved in a play-based program under the guidance of a trained Early Childhood teacher,” he said.
“Attending three-year-olds will make the transition to kindergarten very easy.
"We tried to start the program earlier this year, but the Education Department changed the registration guidelines and it took many months to gain approval.
"Children can start as soon as they turn three and parents can book them in for blocks of a term.”
Teacher Jackie Robinson said she hoped there would be enough interest to run the class.
“It is quite exciting to be the first school in Collie to run this program,” she said.
“The play-based program is very relaxed and it is about easing the transition into kindy.
"We have invested a lot in learning resources and it is not about sitting at a desk all day.”
