TWO local girls have been selected to represent the state in hockey.
Emily Antonovich and Alyssa Davidson were chosen to play for the state under 15 women’s hockey team.
The pair participated in the regional competition and then was selected to trial for the state team from there.
The state trials took place in November in Perth, and two teams of 18 players were selected from the squad.
The Collie Senior High School students said the hard work and training has paid off.
“I am proud to be representing the state, we have done lots of training here in Collie and the hockey community has been helping with our training,” Alyssa said.
“The training never stops, it’s all year round.”
Both girls have a busy training schedule, and travel to Perth every weekend for training sessions.
“It’s easier for the Perth players, there isn’t as much travel involved,” Emily said.
The team will travel to Wollongong in April this year to compete in a ten-day competition where they will take on the top teams from each state.
Emily and Alyssa said they have been working hard on their fitness and techniques in preparation for the national competition.
“I am really enjoying the professional training and I’m learning a lot from it and making friends at the same time,” Alyssa said.
“I enjoy the high level of competition when you compete against the top teams.”
The two girls were the only players from the south west selected for the under 15 state gold team.
Both girls said they have dreams to represent Australia in hockey one day.
“Thanks to the Collie Hockey Association for the support, we are proud to represent Collie hockey,” Emily said.
