A COLLIE man is lucky to be alive after smashing his four-wheel-drive through more than five homes, narrowly missing people sleeping in their beds.
Concerned locals inundated Collie Police with phone calls reporting loud noises and erratic driving in North Collie at around 11pm on Friday night.
It is believed the driver smashed though properties around Wallsend Street causing thousands of dollars in damage, before coming to a stop next to a light post on Robb Street.
The driver, believed to under the influence of alcohol, was taken to Collie hospital with minor injuries.
“He is lucky to be alive,” Collie Police Senior Sergeant Mike Dean said.
“The driver will be charged with reckless driving and several other driving offences.”
Drug implements were also discovered in the vehicle.
Resident Yvonne Hammond was shocked by the extent of the damage.
“It sounded like a bomb went off,” she said.
“The car went through my neighbour’s backyard, side-wiped an apricot tree and just missed a large granite slab.
“He’s demolished the brand new fish pond.
“He was only a few centimetres from hitting a light pole.
“It was very scary, in the 36 years I’ve lived here; I’ve never seen anything like it.
“I don’t know how he survived or how more people weren’t injured.”
